Bald Eagle Rescued in the Dungeness River - July 29, 2008

Two volunteers from the Northwest Raptor Center responded to a report of a Bald Eagle down on the Dungeness River, near Woodcock Road.  It was obvious the eagle was in poor condition, but he successfully evaded them for a while.

As you can see from these images, the eagle was clearly in disgusting condition.

Tim & Jaye try the straight forward approach.

Jaye keeps the eagle's attention by waving her glove while Tim snuck up from behind and successfully captured the eagle late in the afternoon.

The eagle was taken  to Greywolf Veterinary Hospital in Sequim, where Dr. Maya Bewig found a large wound in his back.  She operated on him on Thursday.

He broke the perch the vet had for eagles, so we built him a new perch right after this photo was taken.  You can just see a little of the wound in his back in this image.  Dr. Bewig will close the wound in the next day or so, and then he will come to the Raptor Center to recover.

We are excited about the prospect of a full recovery and release back to the wild for this Bald Eagle.
