The Northwest Raptor Center needs dedicated volunteers. Most of the
work is just that - work. The approximately one hundred cages
for the feeder rats need fresh food and water daily plus cleaned & new
bedding weekly. The resident & rehabilitating animals and birds also
need fresh food and water on a regular basis.
Volunteers are asked to work a regular schedule, typically one weekday
morning from 10:00 AM till approximately noon Monday, Wednesday, Thursday &
Friday. Saturday is cleaning day. Rain, snow or
shine, the animals need to be cared for.
All animals deserve respect - even our pet dogs and cats can cause
serious injury. Wild animals demand even more respect & caution as
even small & innocent appearing animals like ducks and squirrels can give
painful bites & scratches. Predators are especially dangerous.
As a result, very few volunteers are permitted to work with the predators -
eagles, hawks, owls, coyote, bobcats & cougars. All the volunteers
work near all of the animals at the Northwest Raptor Center, but
very few are permitted to work with or enter enclosures containing
predators. Please keep this in mind if you are considering
volunteering at the Northwest Raptor Center.
